Pi Day Inspiration – Pie at Your Wedding

Happy Pi Day! For those of you unfamiliar with the math-based holiday, March 14 (or 3/14) is Pi Day in celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi), which often shortened to the value of 3.14 from its infinite form. You can learn more about the celebration here or here. Believe it or not, this holiday is celebrated worldwide by math geniuses and regular Joes alike with (what else?!) pie! And that, of course, will be our focus today!

Trend Alert: Dessert Tables with Flavor Themes

Wanting to give your guests something above and beyond the traditional wedding cake? Maybe something unexpected, served with a side of WOW?! Consider putting together a dessert table with a variety of treats all sharing a common flavor. It’s especially fun if the flavor theme can tie into your wedding’s color palate. Here are some fun ideas to get you thinking:

Mint
Say you’re using a lovely soft green for one of your colors…why not go with a mint-themed dessert table, complete with whoopie pies of chocolate cakes sandwiching a crème de menthe filling, a vanilla bean wedding cake with a mint-infused buttercream, bite-sized grasshopper cheesecakes of minty filling in chocolate crusts and lemon mint mini-cakes with lemon syrup?

Lemon
Yellow is such a great, fun color for weddings – it’s just so darn happy! Carry over the happiness to your lemon flavored dessert buffet with delectable treats such as classic lemon bars, lemon-raspberry tartlets, double-lemon punch cupcakes, lemon curd thumbprints and white wedding cake layered with lemon crème.

Caramel
A caramel-themed dessert display would nicely complement a few different colors – gold, brown, amber…and the divine treat can be used in lots of ways for a luscious dessert spread. Consider some of these scrumptious ideas: turtle cheesecake bites, caramel apples, mini flans, quarto leches wedding cake with caramel sauce and petites pots de crème au caramel. Oh…my…
If these ideas don’t get you salivating, we don’t know what will! Chat with your reception venue/catering contact or your baker about some other ways to build a fabulous dessert table around a single flavor theme. And get those creative juices flowing!
