Stardust’s New Bridal Collection: Augusta Jones

Stardust Celebrations is thrilled to announce the newest bridal gown line offered in our salon: Augusta Jones! These stylish designer wedding gowns, created with the modern bride in mind, come from a British design team, and Stardust is the only salon in Texas to carry them!
Clockwise from top left: Candace with optional shoulder strap, Elle with optional belt, Juno and Marilyn
When designer Charlotte Leung launched the line in 1999, she focused on three essential requirements: beautiful styling, flexibility of the range to flatter a variety of shapes and affordability. The initial collection was a huge success, and Charlotte expanded and teamed up with her stepmother June Leung, who brought her passion for art deco and period piece jewelry to the collection. In 2003, the label became available in the US, and we are so glad it did! These beautiful gowns, which run in the $1,000-$3,000 range, feature gorgeous details and are inspired by beauty encountered during the designers’ extensive worldwide travel.

Trend Alert: Wedding Reception Beverage Tastings

We just love this trend for wedding reception drinks – tasting stations for the couple’s favorite alcoholic beverages! Brides and grooms are including liquor tasting stations featuring their favorite spirits such as scotch, bourbon, tequila or vodka as part of their bar during their reception. The station consists of small servings of a few to several different selections of the same type of spirit.

Of course, if you and your fiancé or your guests are not big liquor drinkers, you can always do a tasting station for your favorite beer, wine or champagne.

The beverage tasting station is another fun way to further personalize your wedding reception by sharing one of the things you and your fiancé enjoy with your family and friends! Talk with your venue, caterer or bar service to discuss your options for this unique and entertaining offering.

Cheers!

Wedding Reception Toasts

Probably most of you have seen that ridiculous scene in The Wedding Planner where Jennifer Lopez’s character feeds the best man a toast line-by-line through an earpiece. Ridiculous because, well honestly, that’s not really something wedding planners do. The best man and maid of honor’s toasts to the bride and groom should be personal, customized and prepared ahead of time. Can it be intimidating? Sure. But as wedding planners, something that we DO do is help steer you in the right direction. Here are a few easy suggestions to help make sure your toast to the happy couple is something special.

Plan ahead and practice. Write out your speech and practice, practice, practice, not only in front of a mirror but also in front of someone you trust to give you objective, honest feedback. Make notes of key thoughts on a cheat sheet to use during the toast if you feel you might need it. Oh, and practice some more.

Keep it positive and clean. This is a toast, not a roast. Save the hilarious, possibly embarrassing strolls down memory lane for the bachelor/bachelorette parties and rehearsal dinner.

Make it personal. Acknowledge how you know the bride and/or groom and briefly express what they mean to you. Maybe also include some of the reasons why they go together like biscuits and butter.

Stay sober. All the practice in the world will do you no good if you have had too much to drink by the time you give your toast. Enough said.

Keep it short and sweet. Try to keep to one to three minutes, and take your time, speaking clearly and slowly. Remember to breathe.

At the end, be sure and remember to actually toast the couple. Ask the guests to join you in raising your glass to the newlyweds, saying “to Suzy and John…”

If you need some inspiration, check out this video highlight we shared with you in the past of one of our beautiful weddings that has a couple of really sweet toasts from the matron of honor and the bride’s father. Love these!

Happy toasting!

Real Wedding: Powers-Davison

We gave you a sneak peek of this GORGEOUS wedding here, but it's time to circle back and share more of the absolutely fabulous details of this sumptuous event!

The couple met while attending TCU, where Sawyer twirled the baton and Drew covered sports for the TCU Daily Skiff (the school newspaper)...you can imagine how their paths crossed! Sawyer had dreamed of marrying in the Robert Carr Chapel since her freshman year, and so this past January, we were thrilled to help bring her dream to life!

The couple had a classic color palette of red and black with touches of silver and brought in the modern element of bling! There were vibrant red flowers everywhere, simply stunning!
At the church, the couple provided monogrammed tissues, which incorporated the elegant black scroll that was included on every paper item throughout their event. They also gave their guests "Italian confetti" or five Jordan almonds symbolizing wishes for health, wealth, happiness, fertility and longevity!

The celebration continued at the Fort Worth Club, where guests were welcomed into an opulent lounge space for cocktail hour. Look at all of these gorgeous details! Lush red floral arrangements abounded, and again the ubiquitous black scroll punctuated the decor. Black damask designs further carried that element, and the bling factor had more of a presence. Isn't it just gorgeous?!

The elegant ballroom was filled with round guest tables featuring black and red linens, silver chargers and chivari chairs and red floral centerpieces. The head table was a long, rectangular banquet table running down the center of the space. Red lighting and abundant candlelight added to the romantic ambiance.

The table cards, escort/place cards and menus further carried the red and black color scheme, and the table cards featured quotes from articles Drew had written for The Skiff, adding a fun personal touch. In addition to the fabulous wedding cake (details on that in a moment), the couple offered guests an extensive dessert display along with blinged-out favor boxes so the guests could take some of the treats home.

Truly no detail was forgotten, and the decor incorporated red flowers literally everywhere - including more "S" and "D" forms covered with flowers and delicate orchids hung by ribbons from the chandeliers! Candles and lighting again added to the wonderful atmosphere throughout the entire event space.

We loved this phenomenal 7-tier cake featuring various designs on each layer and red floral and bling accents. And check out that mirror mosaic cake stand and the brooches on the velvet table linen and on the cake itself! Isn't it stunning?!

Fun-loving Sawyer and Drew wanted a beautiful, elegant affair, but they also wanted their guests to have a great time and lots of fun dancing the night away! And of course, what wedding celebration featuring a TCU couple would be complete without a visit from Super Frog himself?! At the end of the evening, the couple was sent off in a shower of (what else?!) red flower petals and whisked away in a horse-drawn carriage.
